Is it necessary to ban birthday celebrations?

My daughter turned 7 today, and I bought 18 cupcakes just as I did last year for her to bring to class to share with her classmates in celebration of her birthday. However I was in for a surprise when her teacher informed me that I was not allowed to do so, when I asked why she said to speak with the new principal, so that is what I did. I asked the principal why I was not allowed to supply the class with a yummy treat and her exact words were, " birthdays are meant to be celebrated at home." and " this school promotes healthy snacks, and cupcakes are not healthy." Give me a break, the cupcakes I brought in had 120 calories and 4 g of fat, that is less than what is the fake hot dogs and tator tots that they feed the kids 4 days a week. I am appalled that my child was not able to celebrate with her class, considering she was so looking forward to it. I mean realistically, is a cupcake going to do any damage, the children would have burned off the calories and then some at recess. I just think that there are more serious things to think of then are cupcakes to fattening? and oh no, no no celebrating birthdays in class, kids need to have fun and relax to, children should not have to worry about eating a cupcake, I understand that kids should eat healthy, but if you let them think that cupcakes are bad for you at 7, they will be eating lettuce for dinner by the time they are 12 so they don't gain to much weight. Does anyone agree with me? Would you as a parent have been disappointed this morning? I am disappointed, especially since me and my daughter had to share 18 cupcakes for dinner?

This is who I am

So, I figured I would post another POST, telling you all a little more of who I am, I am ME,, haha ... on a serious note, I am a mom, a wife, a daughter, a friend, a student, geez,,,, I am alot.. I take pride in all I do, most importantly I am most proud of being a mom to two wonderful little girls that make my life what it is, bright, sunny, and happy. I go to school for myself first, but I also put in a lot of effort to show them that you have to work hard to reach any goals that you set for yourself. I am proud to tell everyone that I have not always been such a go- getter. I was in alot of trouble as a youth and that is why I originally decided to be a criminal justice major, to help at risk youth turn their lives around before it was to late(some people say its never to late, but tell that to the 90 year old homeless man, with no education and a drug addiction!) I got my "stuff" together when I was 18 and had my first daughter, I completed an associates(well, almost,2 more classes:) and then I had a change of heart and came to Salem State instead of Northeastern Univesity(which I worked really hard to get into) I decided to go the route of education, because I chose to have children and I dont beleive leaving them at home with a nanny for 50 hrs a week and that is what a probation job would have entailed, instead I can go to work and see smiling childrens faces all day and be their role model, have the summers off, and be with my children at dinner, also playing at recess is a bug plus!!!!!

I found my observation school

So, I am going to be observing at Sisson elementary school , which is in Lynn Ma. My daughter is actually a student there, I will be starting next week with a second grade math lesson. I am so excited and a tad nervous. I am not sure why I am nervous, as I know a few teachers and they are all very friendly. I am most nervous that my daughter doesnt understand that I cant come to her class and she thinks it is because I didnt pick her, hopefully she will grasp it. Well I hope everyone is having a great week and enjoy the weekend,. I will be back over the weekend I am sure I am a big gabber so this page will be filled before you know it.

Not so hard

So, I thought this blogging thing was going to be hard to do, however it was easier then I thought. Actually, alot of things in life are easier then you plan them out to be. I think alot of children and adults for that matter are scared of education, they think it is going to be to hard, that their not smart enough, or any other of the millions of reasons people dont further or even finish their educations. I myself beleive that receiving an education has nothing to do with being smart, it has all to do with what you take out of the experience. That is what education is, an experience.
